Southwest Parking Area Self-Contained Camping

The parking area is 20 spaces in the center of the parking lot for Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. The visitor center / parking lot are located in the southwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park along the park's main road (Hwy 89), about one mile from the southwest entrance (500 feet from entrance station/fee booth).

DESCRIPTION

Overnight stays in self-contained vehicles are allowed in the part of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center parking lot, often called the Southwest Parking Area. This area is open year-round, even when the Southwest Walk-in campground or the visitor center is closed. Tents are not allowed in this parking area. There is a per-night, per-spot camping fee to stay overnight.

WEATHER INFO

The park receives very little precipitation between July and September. Snow can linger on peaks into July and August, although the parking lot is usually snow-free by late-June. The Southwest Parking Area is located at 6,700 feet elevation. Summer/Fall high temperatures range from 65 to 81°F and lows range from 26 to 36°F. Winter/Spring high temperatures range from 50 to 61°F and lows range from 13 to 23°F.
