To reach Lava Point Campground, start by driving north from the intersection of UT-9 and Kolob Terrace Road. Drive on Kolob Terrace Road for roughly 20 miles. Then, take a right onto Lava Point Road. Follow Lava Point Road for 1.4 miles, then turn left at the sign for Lava Point Campground. The campground can be found next to the sign. A map can be obtained from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center during regular hours.

DESCRIPTION

Lava Point Campground is open as weather allows, typically from May through September. Situated at 7890 feet above sea level, the campground can be reached via the Kolob Terrace Road, 25 miles (45 minutes) north of the Virgin. It takes approximately 80 minutes to drive to the campground from the South Entrance of Zion Canyon. Six (6) primitive campsites are available for reservation. The campground has pit toilets and trash cans, but no running water. Vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted.

Zion is known for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevation and day/night temperatures may differ by over 30°F. Learn more on our weather webpage: https://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/weather-and-climate.htm The campground is 7890 feet above sea level, almost 5000 feet higher than the park's South Entrance at Springdale. This means it is usually much cooler at Lava Point than in other parts of Zion National Park.

Lava Point Campground is open as weather allows, typically May through September. Reservations are required and can be made up to 14 days in advance. First-come, first-served sites are not available. Be sure to make reservations before beginning your trip - cell service is limited in the park.
