WEATHER INFO

Elevations in the park range from approximately 875 feet (267 meters) to 6,643 feet (2,025 meters) and the topography can drastically affect local weather. Temperatures can vary by 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit from mountain base to top, and clear skies lower down do not guarantee equally pleasant weather at higher elevations.

PARK CLOSURE

Several closures in place for winter storm, November 10

US 441/Newfound Gap Road and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail will remain closed today (11/10). The park received several inches of snow at higher elevations and these roads are very icy. Crews will reassess conditions tomorrow morning. Cades Cove closed this afternoon due to ice and snow. Lakeview Drive and Cherokee Orchard Road are also closed. Laurel Creek Road, Cosby Entrance Road, Greenbrier Road, and the Foothills Parkway are now reopened.

PARK CLOSURE

Old NC 284 is closed from Cataloochee Creek to Cataloochee Valley

Old NC 284 is open from Big Creek to Cataloochee creek, however there is no access to Cataloochee Valley via Old NC 284 due to road damage. Visitors may access Cataloochee Valley via Old Cataloochee Turnpike.

Park Headquarters Road closed

Park Headquarters Road is closed due to rehabilitation work on the Sugarlands water and wastewater systems. The Gatlinburg Trail is open. Visitors can access this trail from Gatlinburg or the Sugarlands Visitor Center.

Straight Fork and the one-way section of Balsam Mountain Road closed.

Straight Fork and the one-way section of Balsam Mountain Road (Heintooga Round-Bottom Road) are closed. The 9-mile paved section of Balsam Mountain Road remains open; visitors may still access Balsam Mountain Campground.
